How to Promote Gender Equity

“A world full of empowered women isn’t one where men are marginalized. It’s a world where everyone thrives.” - Purnima Mane

What is gender equity? How do we achieve it? Here are three of my top ways to promote gender equity in the workplace.

Sponsor, champion, and advocate for women. Speak up their names in rooms where they are not in. Use your clout to ensure women enter spaces where they should belong and get paid for it.

Speak up. When you see something problematic - a woman is spoken over in a meeting, mocked on an email, not invited to an event - speak up about it.

Remember intersectionality. The challenges of gender equity in the workplace are amplified when the woman is from a marginalized commnunity. Find solutions to start but one solution will not fit all women.

Do the work

This week, I commit to support initiatives that work towards gender equity and being an ally by challenging stereotypes when I encounter them and encouraging my colleagues to do the same.
